I saw the Big 5 !!!!

There's nothing quite like the thrill of setting off on an adventure with a great group of people, and our recent trip to South Africa with G-Adventures was exactly that. With twelve friends from Canada and the USA, we embarked on a journey filled with incredible landscapes, unique wildlife, and rich cultural experiences. Here’s a relaxed recount of our unforgettable journey.

Cape Town: A Perfect Start

Our adventure kicked off in the vibrant city of Cape Town, a place where stunning nature and city life merge beautifully. We couldn’t have asked for a better start than a cable car ride up Table Mountain, where the views made us all stop and soak in the moment. From up there, the city sprawled below us, framed by the endless ocean.

For those looking for an adrenaline rush, shark cage diving was up next. It’s one thing to see these magnificent creatures on TV, but another to be in the water with them—it was scary and exhilarating at the same time, a story to tell for years!

Of course, no visit to Cape Town would be complete without a wine tour. We spent a leisurely day in the Cape Winelands, enjoying the warm sun, tasting local wines, and savoring delicious cheeses—all the while chatting and laughing as friends do.

We also made sure to visit the serene Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, a real treat for nature lovers. Wandering among the exquisite plants, we all agreed it was the perfect way to relax.

A trip to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope brought more memorable moments. Standing where two oceans meet was incredible, and the stop at Boulders Beach to see the playful African penguins was a highlight—we couldn't stop snapping photos of these adorable creatures.

Johannesburg: Stepping Back in Time

Leaving Cape Town, we headed to Johannesburg, a city with its own charm and historical depth. Visiting the Nelson Mandela Home and Museum offered deep reflections on South Africa's vibrant history and its struggles. The highlight here was meeting a survivor of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, whose powerful story touched our hearts in ways we hadn’t expected.

On the Road to Kruger National Park

The drive from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park was a scenic journey we all loved. Stops at Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window, and the Three Rondavels gave us plenty of 'wow' moments. It was the perfect mix of fun, natural beauty, and plenty of laughter along the way.

Into the Wild at Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park needs no introduction among wildlife enthusiasts, and it delivered beyond our expectations. Our safari adventures were packed with excitement as we watched lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and zebras and so much more. Each sighting filled us with awe—there’s nothing like watching these animals roam freely.

Up Close at Karongwe Private Game Reserve

Karongwe Private Game Reserve offered an even closer encounter with wildlife. We went from watching to truly being in their world, spotting endearing baby rhinos, zebras, and giraffes. The goosebump-inducing experience of walking near three male cheetahs was one of those moments you never forget.

Cultural Highlights at Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls was another dream destination ticked off our list, where its mighty roar and rainbows captivated us all. Beyond the natural wonder, sharing a home-cooked meal with a local Zimbabwean family was a heartwarming experience, letting us savor not just the food but the culture and kindness of our hosts.

Our trip included a day in Chobe National Park, where we saw elephant families playing together. Watching the elephants, especially the babies, was pure joy—the perfect end to our African wildlife adventure.

Cherishing the Journey

Looking back, our South Africa trip was more than just ticking off attractions. It was about the laughter, the shared stories, and the warm camaraderie that made it unforgettable. Traveling with such a fantastic group and having incredible guides made every moment special, from the breathtaking sights to the bonds we formed along the way.

We returned home with our hearts full and our phones out of memory space from all the photos we took, already dreaming of our next adventure together.
